Last Day of NaBloPoMo

It is now November 30 which marks the last day of the NaBloPoMo challenge. The National Blog Posting Month Challenge involved participants in writing a blog post every single day for the month. Thousands of bloggers participated and the internet will breath a sigh of relief at the end of the day as they sit back and relax.

I entered into this month after participating in the Pish Posh 8 Week Challenge which meant I posted at least five days per week for 8 weeks. These challenges meant that I have posted more often in the last 90 days than I did in the entire past year leading up to it.

Some days it was rough and I do have a few lame posts that were only thrown up because I had to have something for the day, but I am happy that I participated. While I am happy with several of the posts that I have written over the course of these challenges, I do believe that the quality of my writing fell overall. Having to write every day reduced the amount of time allowed to plan out posts and contemplate what would go into some of them. However, I feel that I have been stretched as a writer and now know that I can write every day. A practice that I plan to put to use as I begin on a book.

I plan to continue my practice of posting often, but can guarantee that I will be slowing down now that the challenge is over. I am committing myself to at least 3 posts a week and most weeks expect that I will post more than three. However, three is my personal commitment. I have plenty of topics to write about and many questions to answer due to my post from a few days ago.

Thank you for hanging in there with me. Hopefully, the skills and discipline gained from this event will be evident in my future posts.

YAY!!! I did it and am happy to have it behind me.

  1. Yay indeed. I still have one more to eek out. "These challenges meant that I have posted more often in the last 90 days than I did in the entire past year leading up to it. That's great. I don't work outside the home but a lot of freelance work came my way this month. Trying to come up with something each day was challenging -- but even with this little exercise -- I think we all stretch our creativity a bit. Even if like you said, some of mine were a few lame posts. Congratulations and enjoy the holiday month.

    1. Thank you. I would love to get into freelance work and make a little extra money, but don't know how to get started.

Congratulations to you as well. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

  2. Well done Brett!
I took a serious look at this challenge when it was coming up but am glad that I opted out of this round. I know that I wouldn't have been able to make it through because of the time commitment.

I do think it's a great tool to get you in the practice of sitting down to put something onto the page every day. I may take a look again in April when the A-Z comes along.

If it's not too late, this post has given me a question idea, I may pop over and ask it on your question post.

    1. I discover that Yeah Write hosts this challenge every month. The official one that everyone participates in is November, but they will get behind any month you may want to do it.

I am really looking forward to the A to Z Challenge.

I would be happy to take more questions.

  4. I know writers talk about the value of writing every day, but they don't publish everything they write every day. There may be some days that everything they write ends up edited out of the larger work they're writing!

Good for you for meeting your goal, and developing a good habit, but take time for you! (and me) :)

  5. Mad props for meeting your goals, and if you write a book I will totally read it. Unless it's only on Kindle or something, cos I just can't get down with the e-reading unless it's on my laptop. Plus, your Best Buy story had the ominous overtone of inauspicious Kindle buying luck ;)

    1. Thank you. I have a book idea in mind and just need to get on it. So far, I only have the book that I was a collaborator on and it is for Kindle only. I want to do one that is all me.

  6. Congrats on completing NaBloPoMo! Especially after doing the other challenge. I can't imagine having to post that much in a few months. I enjoyed it and I'm going to miss it, but it's a relief to know I don't have to post and then come up with a new post idea to write about tomorrow.

    1. Glad you hung in there as well. It made it more fun knowing that some of the people I read were participating as well.

  7. Good job!! You have every reason to be proud, between the two challenges. But phew, right? Sooo glad to be done. I feel giddy, like I won't know what to do with myself tomorrow :)

    1. Thank you. Luckily, I have the wonderful advantage of being able to do it at work, but I do see a few days next week where my work hours will be freed up as well.
