Great Week for Blogging

I have had a very eventful week. Well, more eventful than my usual weeks of watching television, doing homework and spying on my neighbors. I even got out of the house a few times.

It started last weekend when I escorted my son, Christian, and his band Odysseus to a recording studio in St. Louis to record their first EP. It was a learning experience for me and, in an unexpected turn of events, my voice made it onto the album. For those of you who have been unfortunate enough to hear me sing, don't start investing in earplugs. It wasn't a solo and I wasn't actually singing. There is a spot in the chorus of one of their songs where we screamed chanted the phrase "Don't take it out on me." I haven't heard the whole song, so I don't know what that means.

$1.99 on Amazon
On Tuesday, which was Valentine's Day for those of you who might not have noticed, the very funny blog The Simple Dude had a give away for single people. The prize was a $50 Amazon gift card. It involved tweeting re-twitting re-twatting tooting re-tweeting a message he put out on Twitter that day and then he would do a random drawing. I re-tweeted (that word just doesn't sound right) his message and commented on his blog that if I won, I would buy his blogging e-book from Amazon.

I did not win, but the winner, who writes the blog Good Youngman Brown, decided to buy the book for me with his winnings. I had the link in my inbox by the afternoon of the next day. I have never met this man. He just decided to do this after seeing my comment that I wanted to buy it. Thank you, fellow blogger. You are one of the good people out there in this world.

Of course, I went to check out the blog of my benefactor and was pleased to find that he is very funny. Be sure to visit Good Youngman Brown and The Simple Dude. You will not be disappointed by either.

A heart, yes.
But no sappy pink
or frilly stuff
Earlier on V Day, I proposed marriage to Red at the blog Doesn't Speak Klingon. Well, I didn't really propose. I just told her I had decided this should happen and she agreed. You can see this in the comments of her February 13 post. We have never met and don't know if we ever will, but I expect that we will be very happy. Vesta Vayne at Cowardly Feminist gave us her stamp of approval. She even encouraged Red to accept.

Then this morning, I was informed by CopyBoy at the blog Not Worth Mentioning that I was the featured New Blog of the Day on his site. I just discovered this site last week and have enjoyed reading his take on the crazy facts he finds on the internet. Thank you, CopyBoy for today's plug.

I know I included a lot of links in this post, but I recommend every one of these great blogs. If I mentioned any you are not familiar with, pay them a visit.

  1. I just discovered Good Youngman Brown, too, and he is totally follow-able.

So, now that we're going public, I should provide a date, as you requested. The only wedding date that makes any kind of sense is January 1. Taxes are such a pain that it seems like silliness to change one's filing status mid-year. I don't get it.

And thanks for helping break my writers' block!

    1. See. Our efforts keep complimenting each other. And I appreciate how you look at this from a practical point of view. Taxes are important to consider. Plus, January 1 falls on a Tuesday next year, so airfare will be lower for anyone that wants to attend. You're so smart.

  4. Having been forced through minor illness, major workness and just plain not enough caffeine to tone down my blogging these past few weeks, I have to say good for you. And I envy you. I will bounce back, soon, not worried about that, but it's good to see you so full of energy. And it was really no BS heartwarming to hear that someone just gave you something like that out of the blue. If I didn't know so many wonderful bloggers I would have given up on the human race long ago.

I know, I know. I get sappy when I'm tired. What can I say? I get irritable, too. So I'm still cool.

    1. We love you and love your blog. I won't hold it against you. I know you are much more cynical than how you just came across. We can call it a moment of weakness.

  6. Lucky you, terrible week for blogging on my end. Nothing but school work and sleep deprivation.

    1. I am nearing the end of one of my classes and the workload is slowing. It will kick in again in about 2 weeks. Hang in there.

  7. If things don't work out with Red, remember that I am looking for a first husband, until I find him. Then, I'll be looking for husband number two.

    1. That's funny. Don't tell the first one he is only a trial spouse.

I thought you were only interested in musicians. Besides, Red and I are in for the long term. It would be a long wait.

  8. Two things here:

    1. You also spy on your neighbors? Glad to know I'm not alone.

    2. Wow, how nice of the winner to buy you the book. Almost two nice. Wait. Did you ask how he wants to be repaid? Hmmmm.....

    1. The neighbor directly across the street died in a motorcycle accident. When they went into his house to start cleaning they found that he had removed the floor in one room, installed a skylight that took of the entire ceiling and had planted marijuana plants in the now exposed ground. He grew them, dried them and packaged them all inside his house.

The people there now have a loud humming sound coming from their home every night, all night. I really want to know what it is.

And the winner hasn't asked for anything yet.

    1. A lot of the stuff I had already started doing, but I found a few good tips that I hadn't thought of and am going to try.

  10. Wait, to clarify...Is finding a chicken mcnugget in your french fries a good thing? Because I'd be a little weirded out by questions like "what is meat doing in my fries?" and "how old is this?" and "am I sure there's not a ring on it?" Just saying.

    1. Free nugget? Very good. I don't like them enough to order them, but they are better than fries.

And I would totally love to find one with a ring on it and get PAID!!!

    2. Yikes. Paid, sure...and then you could use that money for the therapy you'd need afterwards.

But wait, this is an analogy. So a comment, like a nugget, comes from a mysterious source, DOES make you happy, MIGHT make you ill, and if particularly special can give you a nice cash settlement and a lifetime of trauma?

Yeah, that's about how I feel about comments too.

    1. That is no problem at all. I can't thank you enough for the e-book. I have told everyone about the gesture. Thank you.

  12. I've read the Simple Dude's book. Not bad if just starting out, but I only found a few things that I found helpful. But, for $1.99 it was a quick read and I wasn't upset with it!

    1. I thought the same. It didn't have any BIG BEHIND THE SCENE secrets, but many useful tips. I have seen some growth already from a few of them.
